Beauty Staples For Your Suitcase

With all the restrictions on the number of pieces of luggage and how much your suitcase can weigh when you hop on a plane for your next holiday, you may find that you can’t bring all your beauty supplies along with you on vacation.  So what do you leave behind?  Which one of your to-die-for products can you afford to live without for a week or two or longer?  These are the beauty staples that you can’t afford to leave behind when you pack your toiletries case.

Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm

No matter where you plan on going, if it’s on a grand tour of Europe or on a trek in the jungle along the Amazon, you need to pack Burt’s Bees Lip Balm in your pack.  Smooth, hydrated lips are sexy lips.  Besides helping to keep your lips beautiful, Burt’s Bees Lip Balm will also help you combat windburn and sunburn by keeping a layer of beeswax between your skin and the world.

Burt’s Bees Lip Balm comes in tinted formulas, but I prefer to sick to the original in the no-mess tube and let my healthy lips shine through.

Sunscreen

Is sunscreen really a beauty staple?  Yes, it most definitely is!  There is nowhere in the world where you don’t need to pack sunscreen in your beauty kit.  Nowhere!  Sun damage is bad for the look of your skin and bad for your health.  It can cause wrinkles and skin cancer.  While everyone looks better with a healthy tan, nobody looks good with a sunburn.

Look for sunscreen that is non-cosmegenic or approved by a dermatologist.  Buying a biodegradable product is also very important.

Bare Escentuals Mineral Makeup

Mineral makeup is the only kind of makeup you want to carry with you on vacation.  No matter where you’re going, when you want to cover up those imperfections or highlight your eyes for a night out on the town, you want to have Bare Escentuals along with you.

Their makeup comes in small travel friendly and travel safe containers (hard plastic containers for the most part).  You can also buy a travel kit, including a small brush and a compact with mirror.

A friendly hint on makeup:  bring your foundation and one eye colour or highlighting colour.  Don’t go crazy, you’re on holiday and you’re going to want room in your suitcase to bring something special home.

Spectro Acne Care Cleansing Pads

Even if you don’t suffer from the occasional breakout, these cleansing pads are a great space-saver for people on the move.  They can fill in for your bottle of facial cleanser and are disposable.  The best part is they do double duty:  they clean your pores, getting all the dirt from the day’s trek off and get rid of the day’s makeup.  They also work to help freshen the face after a long plane, train, boat or car trip!

A hint for travel friendly products:  pack them in your checked luggage, it’s safer than risking your beauty items at the security gate.  Also, if you like buy your products in big bottles, consider buying a set of small plastic bottles from mec.ca to carry just enough product for your trip.  Your back will thank you!

One Luxury Item

No, not your hair straightener.  Think something special, something small.  If you have a travel-sized bottle of perfume, feel free to bring it along as a special treat for your evenings out.  If you’re going to be on the road for long enough that you can’t live without your tweezers, throw ‘em in there.  Or put your travel-sized bottle of Biosilk in your beauty kit:  it doubles as moisturizer for dry skin!  Make room for an all-over moisturizer like Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Swivel Stick for an added beauty bonus.  Pick something that you don’t need, but you’d really like to bring along as your luxury item.

Other Things To Throw In Your Kit

•    toothbrush, toothpaste, floss
•    deodorant or antiperspirant
•    menstrual cup/tampons/etc.
•    comb or small hairbrush
•    razor (or treat yourself to a waxing before you go on holiday)
•    nail clippers, with attached nail file
•    soap, shampoo and conditioner if you’ll be staying in hostels/campgrounds

Beautiful On The Road

Packing for a trip can be daunting.  There will be a point where you might want to just empty out your medicine cabinet into your toiletries kit and be done with it!  But you really don’t want to be the person who carried a set of curlers around Europe.  With this list of beauty staples, you can travel with just enough!
