The Packing Mistake Almost All Women Make
|
|

|
Being on vacation should be all about doing things spur of the moment and, as cliché as it is, getting away from it all. Unfortunately, many women make the mistake of over-packing and don’t realize that being left with too many clothing options can hinder their spontaneity and waste valuable vacation time. This frustrates the men in their lives to no end because they cannot begin to understand why we don’t just pack the requisite number of underwear, socks if needed, shorts, t-shirts, skirts and dresses. Instead, we go overboard and then spend way too long trying to decide instead of just picking something and going with it. For women, the side that needs to feel prepared often overrides their reasonable side and over-packing is the result. Try to keep in mind the following suggestions to curb the urge to over-pack and keep the peace with your loved one when travelling!
Plan Plan Plan!
During the planning phase it is important to check local weather forecasts for your destination and make sure you know what to expect for the time that you will be away. Also, consider the number of days and nights you will be away and remember that you cannot possibly wear everything that you instinctively want to pack. Think about how many nights you plan to dress formally and dine at an upscale restaurant and how many you plan to take it easy and either order room service or just grab a bite at a local hotspot.
Pack Only What You Need
Once the planning is done, the hard part comes next: physically placing your clothes in your suitcase. You may have to stop yourself from putting extra dresses, skirts or even tanks and shorts into your suitcase just to take away that feeling of being unprepared. Women want to cover all their bases and make sure they are ready should the unexpected happen. If you have ever thought to yourself, “What if I wanted to wear an outfit that I chose to leave at home?” as a reason to pack more than you need, then you are probably guilty of being an over-packer. Worrying about far-fetched “what-ifs” will cause you to waste time getting ready when you could be spending that time enjoying your vacation. If you are in denial about being an over-packer, ask a loved one who travels with you and listen to what they have to say!
Limit Yourself
I know that the men who read this article will nod emphatically when they read this next section. We all know that shoes are a woman’s kryptonite. It is near impossible for a woman to walk by a pair without stopping to have a look, which is why they are such a big problem when it comes to going on vacation. When it comes down to it there are flats, heels, running shoes and flip-flops; plus you may need them in different colours to go with different outfits. Sometimes we’re talking an extra bag just for shoes! What you should do to limit the number of shoes (and keep your travelling partner happy) is to choose shoes that can be worn with more than one outfit. It is irrational to carry a pair of shoes thousands of kilometres away just to wear them for a couple of hours, with one outfit, even if they do look darn good with that dress! So tell yourself you will wear them another time (sigh!) and leave those gorgeous but totally impractical stilettos at home and instead go for the wedges that you will be able to wear with your skirt the next night.
Don’t Forget to Have Fun
Going on vacation is supposed to be a relaxing, rewarding experience. Stressing out over what to pack and worse, what you did not pack, is the last thing you want to do. Bring the essentials and don’t think too much about the rest of your clothes. Vacationing is about being impulsive and being up for anything. It will be over too quickly and I guarantee that if it weren’t for pictures you wouldn’t remember what you wore, but you will remember who you went with and what a blast you had. Besides, a couple of years from now you will be wondering what you were thinking when you wore that awful outfit and those totally outdated shoes anyway.
