Travel The World On A Budget

Have you ever wanted to travel around the world? Are you ready to take a serious leave from work or school to travel the globe from East to West? Travelling around the world probably seems like something only the rich, famous and jobless can do. Not true! This guide to travelling around the world will get you ready for the best experience you’ve ever had!
Ticket To Ride
The plane tickets required to traverse the world would add up to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Luckily, travel companies and airlines have come to realize there is a market for this kind of adventure. Tickets are usually open ended with an 18-month expiry date. Prices usually range from $1700 to $3500.
Another ticketing option is “open-jaw” or “multi-city” tickets. These tickets allow you to start in one place and leave from another. Although they’re not perfect for the true around the world experience, they can be helpful to get from one continent to the next, if you’d prefer to do some travel by train, car or bus along the way.
Contact your travel agent for tips on the best routes and how to maximize your around the world flight experience.
Paying Your Way
This is not going to be one of those all-inclusive $1000 trips. Around the world travel requires plenty of preparation, especially in the financial department, but it is possible. Your spending will depend on what kind of trip you want. Are you looking for the ultimate experience? Or are you happy to low budget your way from Vancouver to Tokyo?
You could save for several years before being able to take your dream vacation. Talk to your bank about creating a savings plan through investments or a monthly-withdrawal from your bank account. Go on a bit of a spending diet and you’ll be able to relax your way around the world!
If you’re not quite ready to save up, work on the go. Arrange for longer visits to certain cities and work your way around the world. Be sure to arrange travel visas before you head to your next destination. This is a viable option if you’re willing to put a little extra time into each stop. Just work until you can afford to jump to your next dream city.
Places To Go, People To See
It would take several lifetimes to see the entire world. There are two ways to take this adventure: straight up or mixed. If you’re into the quick as-many-cities-as-you-can-fit-in caper, expect to visit several cities in each country. Of course, you’ll be spending a few days tops in each country and on full throttle!
If you’re into more of a relaxed pace, moving slowly from country to country, expect to visit one city per country. It’s far more diluted, but you get a different taste.
Think about what you expect from your trip, so you can avoid disappointment. Pick your poison. In reality, it comes down to how many cities and countries you expect to experience on your trip. My ideal around the world experience would include a stop in every continent, with emphasis on Asia and Eastern Europe.
All In The Timing
How long can you leave your life? Who’s waiting for you at home? How long can you afford to be gone? These are all questions that need to be answered before you can figure out how long you can spend travelling. When it comes down to it, a solid around the world experience takes about a year. Expect to spend several weeks in places you’re head over heels in love with!
With most tickets, you can afford to come home for a while, if needed, either for a break, for a wedding or for the holidays!
Two Peas In A Pod
Is it better to go alone or take this adventure with a partner? Ideally, you want to have someone you can count on when you’re sick in Paris, sick and tired of being the only person who speaks English in the Sahara Desert and tired of being away from home.
One word of warning, you have to be able to get along with this person for an extended period of time, so look for someone you know you can live and travel with! Travelling in a group of three or four is another great option. More variety for those long rainy days!
Your best bet would be to look for different friends and family members to join you on different legs of your trip! It’s the perfect chance for you to interact with the people you’ll miss most, while they get a great, albeit shorter, vacation!
Around The World In 365 Days
Are you ready to plan your around the world vacation? Think about your budget and how much of the world you’re ready to see. Remember, you’ll always have tomorrow, so don’t try to fit too much into one trip!
